KNEELING GUARD OPEN AND PASS: step by step in jiu-jitsu

GUARD PASSCLOSED GUARD · ON TOPIBJJF +3

Step by step

  1. Control the belt (or the pants, if he has no belt) and close your elbows at the height of his legs.
  2. Place one knee between his legs and throw all your weight to the other side, so he cannot sweep you.
  3. Push him forward and drive your back backwards: the closed guard lock opens.
  4. With the hand that pushed, bring his leg down and immediately place your knee in to pin it.
  5. Wrap his head and fan your base open while he tries to close the half guard or frame against your shoulder.
  6. Drive shoulder pressure, slide the knee and, if your leg is trapped, kick it free.
  7. Move your hips beyond his knee line and remove your leg completely.
  8. Organize your knees, chest and head to stabilize side control.
