SINGLE LEG TAKEDOWN: step by step in jiu-jitsu

TAKEDOWNSTANDINGIBJJF +2

Step by step

  1. Stay one arm away in a fighting stance, close enough to reach his leg.
  2. Bend your knees to change levels, keeping your torso organized instead of diving with your head.
  3. With your right leg matched against his left, step to the outside and place your head on the inside.
  4. Wrap his thigh with both hands and press with your shoulder, transferring his weight onto the back leg.
  5. Bring the captured leg into the middle of your stance; he must hop or post his hands to avoid falling.
  6. Open your knee, hips and shoulder together toward the side where he has no support.
  7. Accelerate in that direction with your head and shoulder, driving his hips toward the floor.
  8. Let him fall by himself and remain standing over him: falling with him allows a counter takedown attempt.
