GUARD RECOVERY: step by step in jiu-jitsu
ESCAPESIDE CONTROL · ON BOTTOM
Step by step
- He passed your guard: do not hug him back. The position is about pushing and creating space.
- Close your fist, slide it under his chin and press your forearm against his neck.
- The other forearm frames his hip. Always the forearm, never a hand grip.
- Lift your legs off the floor and bridge hard, driving your hips upward to unload his weight.
- As your hips return, push with both forearms and hip escape.
- Bring the bottom leg in first, placing the shin across his abdomen.
- The top leg enters next with the knee on his chest, keeping him away.
- Take your head back, away from the head wrap, pull him between your legs and close the guard.
