GUARD RECOVERY: step by step in jiu-jitsu

ESCAPESIDE CONTROL · ON BOTTOM

Step by step

  1. He passed your guard: do not hug him back. The position is about pushing and creating space.
  2. Close your fist, slide it under his chin and press your forearm against his neck.
  3. The other forearm frames his hip. Always the forearm, never a hand grip.
  4. Lift your legs off the floor and bridge hard, driving your hips upward to unload his weight.
  5. As your hips return, push with both forearms and hip escape.
  6. Bring the bottom leg in first, placing the shin across his abdomen.
  7. The top leg enters next with the knee on his chest, keeping him away.
  8. Take your head back, away from the head wrap, pull him between your legs and close the guard.
